The
Residential Services Program provides residential options to adults
with developmental disabilities who cannot remain at home with their
families. These residential options include co-operative apartments
and alternative family care homes. Co-operative apartments are also operated by a community board of directors and are staffed by a live-in supervisor and relief staff. There are usually 2-3 persons living in each group home. Co-operative apartments are not meant to be permanent homes. The main emphasis is on teaching skills and offering support programs in order to encourage independent living. Alternate family care homes are private homes which have been approved by Health and Community Services to provide care and support to a maximum of two persons. When individuals cannot remain at home but wish to remain in a family setting, an alternated family care home is a good option. If you are interested in further information about these services, please contact your district office.
